NEWLY DISCOVERED CAVES IN CATBALOGAN [1]

22nd of October 2020, after our expedition to Naponod Cave in Sitio Piña, Brgy San Andres Catbalogan City, two new caves were discovered by our team which was spearheaded by the renowned cave master of Samar, sir Joni Abesamis Bonifacio

First photo is the entrance of Sitio Piña Cave 1 while it is followed by the picture of its knee-high small underground river which is inhabited by a species of freshwater fish. This cave is the first to be reached from Sitio Piña en route to Naponod Cave.

This photo shows a uniquely-shaped stalagmite across the hanging rock formation, near the entrance of Sitio Piña Cave 2.

These are actually its numerous tiny stalactites on its upper chamber. The cave also has an ankle-high, flowing stream on its vicinity as well as formations of unique stalagmites below from where we took a photo.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to fully explore these two caves because this only served as a side trip after visiting Naponod Cave, therefore other technical terms or aspects won't be shared as of now.

According to sir Joni, the city of Catbalogan has 5 recorded caves and two of it namely Central Cave and Naponod Cave are regularly visited by both local and foreign tourists. With this discovery and a plan for a full exploration of the two caves and the search for more in that area, there'd be new ones which will be added to the caves of the city and if the exploration would lead to more discoveries, would Catbalogan be the new caving capital of Samar? Well, let's hope for it 🤔😉
