"Paglantuyan Falls" Motiong Samar's Secret That Is Hidden in Nature

The island of Samar has secrets that is more interesting than the secret of your rivals,of your boss,  of your crush, of your boyfriend/girlfriend or of your own. Samar's secrets are hidden in nature and is waiting to be explored.

Samar is home to numerous majestic and pristine waterfalls and caves, The well-known waterfalls of Samar is the "Lulugayan Falls" of Calbiga W.Samar and the "Tarangban" waterfalls of Calbayog Western Samar while the well-known caves of Samar are "Sohoton Cave," "Langun-Gobingob" and "Lobo cave."

Talking about the secrets of Samar, one of it is the "Paglantuyan Falls"situated in Motiong W.Samar.

Paglantuyan Falls is one of the series  of waterfalls belonging to Brgy.Calantawan in Motiong W.Samar. It is the last waterfalls of the series which features a mini-swimming pool and two mini caves. Above Paglantuyan is the "Kalipkipon" and "Kimit " waterfalls.

Locals claim this place to be a "pagdurul-an" which is synonymous to being enchanted so, if you visit Paglantuyan, minimize your voice and don't leave any trash, LEAVE NO TRACE! Show respect to the elements and to mother nature as well :) 

How to get there: Via Jiabong-Camarubu-an -Victory: (The easy trail)

via Brgy.Camarubu-an/Victory

• 1) Ride a Jeep to Jiabong and then get off at Jiabong's public market (just beside the highway) across the market is the line of habal-habals going to Brgy Camarubu-an and Victory.
  
  Fare: Catbalogan-Jiabong: 15-20  Php Jiabong- Camarubu-an; 50 php Camarubu-an- Victory = 50 for a total of 120 php
  
  2) Ask the driver to drop you on the purok of Brgy.Victory where the jumpoff to Paglantuyan is situated. Kindly Ask for a trustworthy local which will serve as a guide to the Falls. * Trail is just an easy descend from the jump off point, it will take 20 to 30 minutes before reaching the vicinity of the falls, you will pass through medium rice paddies after the descend then a hike with dragonflies and butterflies beside the stream.
  
  

Note: Be friendly to locals, state to the farmer/s that you are going to Paglantuyan (If you happen to encounter one) and don't forget to pay your guide 😊

* *  Paglantuyan Falls is best to visit during the months of June-December

Via Motiong-Calantawan 

• 1) Ride a jeep to Motiong and then get off to the 2nd waiting shed on the crossing where the line of habal-habals is situated. (State to the "konduktor" to drop you at crossing)
  
  2) Ride a habal-habal to Calantawan. It's an uphill ride, passing first Brgy.Menarog (Fare From Catbalogan-Motiong= 20Php Fare from Motiong Calantawan ranges between 60-80 Php )
  
  3) If you arrive Calantawan, Ask for a local which could be a guide to Paglantuyan Falls, It's good to go to the house of the Brgy.Captain first for he can get you a trustworthy guide for the trip. *No Fees Included for a registration etc..* *The trail's difficulty is 3/9, it's a long with steep descend from the baranggay, perfect for adrenaline loving individuals. * The challenge is the descend from the stream on top of the falls going down to the vicinity of Paglantuyan. It's an almost 90 degrees descend with only the soil and some roots to hold. One has to be careful esp when the soil is wet 😊

• You can also do a traverse to the trail of  Brgy.Victory-Camarubu-an to avoid the steep ascends going back.

• Other possible activities to be done in Paglantuyan Falls is rappelling and canyoning from "kimit"to "kalipkipon" all the way down to Paglantuyan.

I have been to Paglantuyan (via Brgy.Calantawan) for like three-times (from 2014,2015 and March 2016) and in Kalipkipon and Kimit as well in 2013 but unfortunately, we were not able to bring a camera on our trip to Kimit and Kalipkipon which is a sad fact.

Hike to Paglantuyan (April 2015) with my homies who  are my long-time adventure buddies.

Sunday morning in the heat of summer we went for a hike to Paglantuyan Falls via Brgy. Calantawan, Motiong Samar. Jumping off the jeep from Motiong, we walked to Brgy.Menarog under the  heat of the sun. We took a rest when we arrived in Brgy.Menarog and bought some ice water before the hike to Brgy.Calantawan.
